The IGNIS project (Integrated Communications System for the extinction of forest fires) is a project of the INNPACTO program of the Ministry of Science and Innovation, within the INNPACTO 2011 call, whose objective is the development of innovative solutions to improve current telecommunications systems used for the management of the extinction of forest fires.

The Radiation Group has contributed to the design, manufacture and measurement of an electronically steerable beam antenna for the tracking of UAVs and other aerial vehicles in fire situations. The developed antenna is located at the ground station and is connected transparently to a WiMAX-based communication system through which the station and the aerial vehicle exchange information, images or video of the fire in real time.
